Praying The Lords Prayer

Greek Matthew 6:9-13

“This, then, is how you should pray:
   “‘Our Father in heaven, 
hallowed be your name, 
your kingdom come, 
your will be done, 
   on earth as it is in heaven. 
Give us today our daily bread. 
And forgive us our debts, 
   as we also have forgiven our debtors. 
And lead us not into temptation,
   but deliver us from the evil one."

Mindlessly reciting these words as a rote prayer or mantra is not what Jesus has in mind when he taught the disciples how to pray.

Prayer is a conversation with a relational God (see Jonah 4 as he "prays" to God about his complaints of all things).   Countless prayer methods or techniques have been created using the Lord's Prayer, but here is one from taught by Korean church.  In Korea, they teach believers to pray each step of the six steps for 10 minutes for a grand total of one full hour)

1. The Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13)
   
   1. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name
      
      1. honoring prayers. Recognize God for who he is in all his glory.  Possibly recite the names of God.  Worship God by giving him praise as you see fit.  
         
   2. your kingdom come, your will be done as it is in heaven
      
      1. yielding prayers. Acknowledge that life is not all about "me."  That you are a part of his grand design and perfect will for this world.  Ask  how can be a participant in the advancement of his kingdom.
         
   3. Give us today our daily bread
      
      1. providing prayers. Thank The Lord for all that he has provided for you.  Recognize that everything you possess, from material things, to family & friends, to your body, to your mind, gifts and talents, are all gifts from God.
         
   4. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors
      
      1. forgiving prayers. Review your relational and personal wrongs & sins against other people and ask for forgiveness (prepare to ask those individuals.)  Review the wrongs & sins performed against you by other people and forgive them as the Father forgave you. (v.14&15 provide a stern warning about harboring bitterness).
         
   5. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one
      
      1. protecting prayers.  Ask the to be filled and refilled with the Holy Spirit.  Ask for deliverance from physical, emotional, mental and spiritual perils.  For spiritual discernment in every choice throughout the day and to keep the influence from the spiritual forces of darkness away from you and your loved ones.
         
   6. For thine is the kingdom and power forever
      
      1. trusting prayers.  Contemplate God's sovereignty and his plan for you and your family now and into the future.  See yourself as an adopted child of God and co-heir with Christ and living out in your new identity.
