Ministry in one part of the world rarely mirrors ministry in other parts. Yet, our default perspective tends to only see ministry performed the way we grew up with. Typically Western culture values efficiency, functionality, and productivity which Eastern cultures see as cold and impersonal. So how do we take the gospel to new cultures without without importing our default perspective or compromising the truth?
The Holy Spirit. One of the roles of the Spirit includes ‘illumination’ of the Bible. The Spirit will provide new understanding through previous revelation for every culture. According to Roy King, the same Spirit brings to mind, teaches and gives the words needed to God people as he shines the light on the Jesus the Word of God with the living Word of God.
Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. 1 Corinthians 2:12 (ESV)
Once we remember that God is the God of all nations/people groups, then we can begin to understand how the gospel was design to fit within every culture. However, it may look different without all our "cultural trappings."
