Please be praying for Beth, for she has been on two intense rotations in row. In September she was on the family medicine inpatient service and all this month she's serving in the intensive care unit over at the VA. Unfortunately, with all the changes being imposed on medical residencies Beth's schedule has exploded. Now with night shifts thrown into the mix (since the 1st Years can't stay in the hospital all day and all night due to new duty hour restrictions), it's not uncommon for Beth to work everyday for two weeks straight. (In fact, Beth doesn't have any weekends off for the entire month of October).
To take her mind of work, and so her entire life isn't consumed by medicine, Beth has been looking forward to the day when she'll have time for farming! After she finished the book Hobby Farming, we built a raised garden to get her started. This late in the season she was able to plant some strawberries, broccoli, onions, and romaine. She's hoping to start a composting bin and expand in the spring with some blueberries, tomatoes and other such garden variety produce.
Even with the garden to help her unwind work is still an inhumane load. Please keep Beth in your prayers not only for physical stamina (rest & relaxation), but also spiritual vitality (walking in the peace of God & being a light to her patients and co-workers).
Brett & Beth record their milestones in academia and medicine as they roam far and wide with Jethro, Edessa, and Genevieve in tow.
